My sister’s husband passed away on the 11th December due to a long 14 year battle against a brain tumour. Although expected it still came as a shock. He had almost gone home a few times before but obviously at those times God was not finished with him yet. I don’t believe God wanted him to suffer but he definitely was able to use his faith and testimony to touch many.
So I hurriedly prepared to leave for NZ in time for the funeral with no idea of the journey I was to undertake. I actually felt I was just what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph at Christmas time all those years ago. So as we celebrated our ‘hostel Christmas dinner’ early and arranged tickets (with amazing provision from God) and although there really wasn’t a lot to pack, it was the most organised I had ever felt for a trip so I left feeling very optimistic!!
Trouble ahead
A lovely friend came to see me off at the airport and wished me well. I was due to arrive in NZ at 1pm on the Friday in time for the evening memorial service for Glenn. I had quite a bit of time between my flights so I used that time to reflect on Glenn’s life and what I wanted to share at the celebration service. It was nice to think back to some precious memories mostly from before he got sick. We had some good times and he was a special person in my life. I was feeling very relaxed but several times went to the information counter to explain I didn’t have my boarding pass yet…I spoke to about 3 people and they all told me to return to Gate D2.
